Service Description

In this four-week, generative workshop I welcome writers from any or all levels of experience to come together and intentionally imbue a writing practice with the pursuit of what Carl Jung called "the play instinct." Writing will take place during class meetings. There is no homework. Prompts will be designed to reduce writing anxiety and maximize creativity. This class has the potential to dispel writer's block, generate ideas, foster creativity, build community and create pathways for entering into the writing process gracefully. We will be laying a foundation for strong writing into the future. For beginning writers, this is a welcoming starting point. For those who have more experience, this course can serve as a revitalizing method of engagement. Let's put ambition and anxiety aside. The world is hard. We can work together to find our voices and spirits in words on the page. *Note: Though the goal is directed toward joy, the process of writing often unlocks deep emotions, which are also welcome in this course. At times a writer's joy might look like grief, love, pain or other complicated emotions. The goal is to forget about expectations and competition, work in the moment, let our words be enough and find an active interest in, or curiosity about, the creative process as we find our way forward together. The goals are literary, generative and creative; I am not a therapist, but a novelist and creative writer.
